HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2013 was an exciting year for Pearls + Girls! I enjoyed sharing my favorite recipes and baking tips with you! It brings me so much joy to see my friends and family delight in a little treat now and then, and I hope some strangers will be enjoying them soon, too! My inaugural blog post on October 1, 2013 was an exciting first step in launching my own baking blog. The success has inspired me to fulfill yet another dream; opening my Esty shop in 2014! I’m testing out my products and packaging with monthly Pearls + Girls giveaways, featuring items I hope to sell in my shop this year. Stay tuned!!!
First Pearls + Girls Giveaway
In late October, I took a leap of faith by branching out on social media with ‘pinning,’ and ‘tweeting.’ I’ve gained so much inspiration and support from my friends and family, as well as the food and lifestyle blogging community.
Heck, I even received a Liebster Award for new bloggers!
Check out these stats, my friends:
Facebook Followers: 0
Pinterest Followers: 0
Twitter Followers: 0 and btw, what’s Twitter????
Facebook Followers: 87
Pinterest Followers: 40
Twitter Followers: 158
I notice every like, pin and retweet, and it means so much to me that others find my content worthy of sharing! Not to mention that I get UBER excited when I find out someone actually made a recipe they saw on my blog! YAY! I’m sure someday I will look back on my early blog posts with a pathetic groan at the amateur photographs and website format. Having said that, I’m very proud of the work I’ve done so far, and I strive to improve with every blog post.

I posted 34 times in three months on my blog, waaaaaay more than I thought I would! I guess you could say I got bit by the ‘blogging bug.’ I also completed my first blog series, 12 Days of Cookies, which I admit, was a bit of a lofty aspiration. Blogging is not my full-time profession, it’s a hobby, most of which is completed while my children are sleeping. It was tough to stick to a blogging schedule, especially in the busy month of December.

Pearls + Girls also hosted a Holiday Bake Sale on my Facebook page. I was thrilled with the positive feedback I received from my customers!!! Since I was previously a teacher who baked for family and friends in her spare time, the idea that someone would actually PAY to eat my baked goods was pretty exciting.

I did have one major shipping mishap in which a carefully packaged and legibily labeled parcel of delicious treats traveled over 2,000 miles to reach a customer only 110 miles from my kitchen, but the disappointment soon faded away and inspiration took over. I look forward to my next blog series in January, Where Will These Rolls Take Me Today?, which will feature five recipes, one from each region the USPS decided to ship 2 dozen Pecan Cinnamon Rolls en route to a very forgiving customer, aka my friend, Carrie. FYI, yes they were stale, a 10-day journey will do that to a cinnamon roll. Apparently 2-Day Priority Shipping is just a suggestion, not a gurantee….grrrrr.
HAPPY BAKING AND EATING in 2014!!!! 😀
