Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was my favorite Christmas movie as a child. I watched it on VHS, my kids watch it on Netflix streamed in HD through our Roku box. Even though the technology keeps changing, the song Silver and Gold sounds exactly the same….
Sprinkled with Silver and Gold sugar gems, this Christmas Crack is a simple, yet addictive treat! Saltine crackers smothered with toffee and melted chocolate…..crunchy, salty, sweet, what’s not to love? Wrap it up in a cellophane bag tied with a festive ribbon, or package it in a cute holiday-themed box, and it’s a perfect gift for co-workers, teachers and neighbors this holiday season. This is the 9th recipe in my first blog series, 12 Days of Christmas. Enjoy! 🙂
Source: Table For Two
Yield: 25 – 30 servings
20 saltine crackers (approx. 1 sleeve)
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (I prefer the Ghirardelli brand)
Chopped nuts or candy sprinkles (optional)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. On a foil or Silpat lined baking sheet, line the saltine crackers side by side until the entire pan is filled. Is a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar together. Bring to a boil, then let boil for 2-3 minutes. DON’T STIR! Pour toffee caramel sauce over the saltines, use the back of a spoon to spread to the edges. Bake for 5 minutes. Melt chocolate in a microwave safe bowl for one minute, stir and continue to melt in 30-second intervals until melted, stirring in between to ensure the chocolate doesn’t burn. Remove pan from oven and pour chocolate on top, use the back of a spoon to spread to the edges. If you are using chopped nuts or sprinkles, add them now. Let cool completely, about one hour. Once cool, break into two inch pieces. Store in an airtight container.
